After caring for her father living with dementia, Marisa Toldo began to see care systems differently. What looked like efficiency often concealed isolation. Nursing homes placed at the margins of cities. Generations separated into different buildings, institutions, and routines.

The problem was not simply medical. It was architectural.

This essay argues that care must be understood as infrastructure a civic system shaped by how we design workplaces, housing, neighborhoods, and community life. When generations share space, visibility, and time, care stops being a private burden and becomes a collective capacity.
